Seafair Ambassador Program
2010 Ambassadors, the world is waiting for you!
Accepting submissions February 15-March 10, 2010
Program Overview and Application
The Seafair Foundation annually invites local area high school sophomores and juniors to apply for one of six Seafair Ambassador positions. Selected students represent Seafair in a unique year-long calendar of community participation, mentorship and International relations. Ambassadors also receive a $1,000 college scholarship from BECU (Boeing Employees Credit Union). Historically the Seafair Ambassador Program has positively influenced the lives of many local teens, now serving as leaders in their academic and professional lives as well as providing inspiration to their communities.
Application Process
Students interested in becoming a Seafair Ambassador will discuss in an essay or multi media format, “What Community, Global or School service activity has been most meaningful to you? Describe how your service impacted your community and how it changed you.” From these projects, Seafair will select twelve students for personal interviews from which 6 students are then chosen to be “Seafair Ambassadors”. Students selected will learn first hand the importance of being involved in and giving back to the community.
Please submit applications via email, mail or in person by March 10.

Mentorship Program
From the notable professionals and executives in our community and those who sit on the Board of Directors, Seafair will assign to each Ambassador a mentor for the term of their program. Seafair will work to match students with Board Members whose professions complement each student’s long-term interests. Students will meet with their mentors 6 times during the year to work together on defining, setting and achieving educational and professional development goals.
Year-Long Experience
The selected Seafair Ambassadors will be active as “Ambassadors” throughout a year-long term. Through volunteer events, meetings with mentors, and participating in Seafair Festival events, the ambassadors learn just how “global” and “local” their own community is in preparation for an even larger learning experience as they host students from the Seattle Sister City of Kobe, Japan.
Kobe Hosting Program
Seafair and a Sister City exchange city mutually agree upon the schedule for the visit. In the past, the visits have included meetings with government officials and business leaders, time at the host school(s) and with host families, local cultural experiences and City of Seattle behind the scenes tours.
Home Stays
The host city tries to match interests of the visiting students with similar interests of the host families in order to create a positive environment. Because this program builds close relationships, it is common for students and their home stay families to stay in contact for years.
