Jacqueline Saarenas

Seafair crowned it's shining star Saturday, July 25, 2009 prior to the Alaska Airlines Torchlight Parade as Jacqueline Saarenas was crowned the 60th Miss Seafair. After weeks of tough competition showcasing future leaders and active members of our diverse community, Miss Seafair 2009-2010 was be selected based on her academic achievement, community involvement, public speaking and creative expression.

Saarenas, 20, is a junior at Seattle University majoring in psychology. Upon graduation she plans to pursue a doctorate in psychology and eventually become an educational psychologist. Saarenas also volunteers with Big Brothers and Big Sisters and has been accepted into Seattle University’s Student Leaders for the Common Good Program.

The Seafair Scholarship Program for Women is one Seattle's time-honored traditions. Dating back to 1950, it was originally designed to select articulate young women as Seafair representatives, greeting visiting dignitaries and sharing the Seafair message. Almost 60 years later, the Program has evolved into one that rewards academic ambitions, celebrates diversity and showcases future leaders.
